Redouble Your Effort- Asantehene To Commonwealth Parliamentarians

The King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has urged the members of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) to scale up their efforts at solving pressing challenges facing member states.

In a speech read on his behalf by the Paramount Chief of Mampong Traditional Council, Daasebre Osei Bonsu, Otumfuo acknowledged impact the Association is making around the world but called for enhancement.

This, His Majesty suggests, could be done through the involvement and inclusion of the poor, the marginalized, the vulnerable and the youth.

He opined that this will promote collective search for practical and pragmatic measures in promoting sustained and sustainable development of member countries.

Expressing confidence in the their responsibilities which he said was “a golden chance and the onerous”, Otumfuo said, “I urge you to redouble and re-energise yourself and work assiduously to utilize all the institutions of the commonwealth in consonance with your mandate in order to strengthen and cement the democratic dispensation and also promote gender equality.”

He stated that the diverse nature of the Association puts member states in a better position of finding a better solution to some of the challenges that have bedeviled the international community and posing existential threat to members of the Commonwealth including immigration, terrorism, famine and climate.

The speech was read on behalf of the King during the durbar he organized for the Commonwealth Parliamentarians on Tuesday, October 3, 2023.

The delegates are in Ghana for the 66th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference (CPC).

Hosting
Asantehene deems the Ghana’s selection for the hosting a testament of the country’s commitment to the Commonwealth.

According to him, the honuor is proof of “the recognition and acknowledgment of the indelible positive role that Ghana has played and continues to play in the affairs of Commonwealth. “

He also expressed appreciation to Ghana’s Speaker of Parliament, Rt Hon Alban Bagbin for affording him the chance to host the guests.
