All I Need Is Prayers; Otumfuo Tells Assemblies Of God Pastors

The Monarch of the Asante Kingdom, His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has requested intercessory prayers.

This was during a courtesy call by members of the General Council of the Assemblies of God Church, Ghana, on Friday, November 25, 2022, at the Manhyia Palace.

The delegation led by the General Superintendent of the Church, Rev Dr Stephen Y. Wengam was there to, among other things, introduce the newly elected Council members to the King.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation of Reverend Ministers, Rev Wengnam applauded His Majesty for his various social intervention programmes including the Education Fund.

“We recognise the good things God is doing through you. You are known as King Solomon of our time. We are proud of you. Through the Education Fund, a lot of underprivileged Ghanaians have become lawyers, doctors, and many more. We are here to thank you and show appreciation”, he said.

He also called on the King to help convince the government to use a bi-partisan approach in dealing with the economic crisis confronting the country.

“We have a lot of members who have served this country. Former President John Mahama- who first served as vice President- is our member, the former Chief Justice is our member, the Majority leader of Parliament is our member, the former Finance Minister is our member and several others. We pledge to continue to serve the Asante kingdom and Ghana.

“Since all the political divide heeds you, we plead that you speak to the government so that it adopts a bi-partisan approach to resolve the economic challenge we are saddled with. The crisis is a global phenomenon which can’t be resolved by one person.”

On his part, the King urged them to uphold unity and be guided by the fear of God in their newfound role.

“The Church gave you this mandate because they believe in you. I hope you do it to improve the church further. You need the fear of God, honesty and unity to do that…Let God lead you.”

The Asantehene furthered, “Indeed the country is challenged. We need unity to deal with it. One person cannot deal with the problem. We all have to help. We engage them {the government} behind the scenes. We will continue to do just that. I regard all the factions as my sons and grandchildren so I can speak with them. We will continue to engage them. Ghana is the only country we have and that is what is important. Leaders will come and leave when their time is up. I will do whatever is needed to help our country.”

His Majesty then requested intercessory prayers, noting that leaders need just that to occupy and administer their duties.

“All I need is prayers. I am not wiser than God or any man. It is the grace of God that has put me where I am today. I am not better than any man. I take in the same air the one who sweeps this room takes. The water that is good for her is similarly good for me so I am not better than anyone.

“Grace and the will of God put me in this position. We all have to realise that we are all equal. I request that you frequently make prayers for me; that those of us who are in various leadership positions will be able to discharge our duties with wisdom and honesty”.
